5 Of The Best Exercises To Ease Hand Joint Pain

Exercises To Ease Hand Joint Pain From Northwich Foot Clinic

Hand joint pain can be so frustrating. It can stop us from doing things we enjoy, and it can affect tasks we need to do during our day to day lives such as typing and writing. Unfortunately, it is also something that will trouble many of us throughout our lives.

Thankfully, there are exercises we can do to provide some relief from hand joint pain. Here are five of our favourites:

1. Wrist Bends

For this wrist bend, you need to clench your fist with your fingers around your thumb. Rest the side of your hand comfortably on a table and then bend your fist towards you. Hold the position for a couple of seconds and then release.

2. Thumb Bend

To begin this exercise, hold your left hand with your fingers straight out. Then, using the tip of your left thumb, try to touch the bottom of your little finger. It doesn’t matter if you can’t quite reach it. Hold the stretch for a couple of seconds, then release. Repeat up to ten times, and then switch to the right hand.

3. Thumb Stabilisation

Start by with your fingers and thumb straight and close together, as though you were going to give someone a high five. Then, gently curl your fingers and thumb to make a ‘C’ shape, as though you were holding a can, before releasing back to straight. Repeat up to ten times, and then repeat on the opposite hand.

4. Making An ‘O’

For this exercise, start with your fingers straight. Then, touch the tip of the thumb and the tip of the index finger together to make an ‘O’ shape. Release, then repeat with your other fingers on both hands.

5. Make A Fist

As simple as it sounds, for this exercise you just need to clench your fists, then release. Try to keep your fist clenched for 30 and 60 seconds, and when you release stretch your fingers as wide as you can. Repeat several times on both hands.
